Cohen I 402
Deletion/Conversationalistic Hypothesis: additional features of e.g. "and" may in some contexts be deleted - in particular generally made assumptions. Grice: any opponent of the conversationalistic hypothesis would have to accept at least two lexicon meanings. (The non-truth-functional theory is always stronger). Cohen pro: the semantic hypothesis has only one meaning of "and". E.g. "flower" strong: this excludes plastic flowers. E.g. when a republic is proclaimed, the King is dead and Tom is satisfied: maybe Tom would already be satisfied if the Republic was proclaimed only.
>Terminology/Grice.
