Ronald Dworkin on Slavery - Dictionary of Arguments

Brocker I 602
Slavery/Racial segregation/Dworkin: Dworkin argues that slavery and racial segregation have always been illegal because they violate the very basic right of all citizens: the natural right to equal consideration and respect (1). No legislator, government, administration or court that violated this abstract right deserved the consent of the governed. "Consideration" means respect for well-being and "respect" means recognition of the autonomy of the person.
