Stephen Holmes on Europe - Dictionary of Arguments

Krastev I 44
Europe/Krastev/Holmes: There are two spectres haunting Europe today.
a) Anti-liberals fear the spectre of Exemplary Normality. To praise the European way of life as a norm for all the world is, unintentionally, to invite the whole world to come and partake of its benefits by immigration.
b) Liberals, by contrast, fear the spectre of Reverse Imitation, namely the suggestion that, in some respects, the players in the post-1989 imitation game are changing places.
