John Bowlby on Memory - Dictionary of Arguments

Corr I 238
Memory/Bowlby/attachment theory/Shaver/Mikulincer: Bowlby (1973(1), 1988(2)) believed that attachment-style differences can be explained in terms of storing significant interactions or relationships with attachment figures in an associative memory network. Moreover, with successive recording in memory of attachment-related interactions, these cognitive structures provide increasingly stable knowledge about the self, relationship partners and close relationships, just as increased experience in any domain contributes to the formation of mental schemas related to those domains. Bowlby (1982/1969(3), 1973(1)) called these cognitive structures working models.
