Def Situation/Parsons/Habermas: consists of the components that can either be brought under control from the viewpoint of the actor or evade control - i.e. from "means" or "conditions".
Purpose/Parsons/Habermas: future state that the actor wants to bring about.
Means/Parsons: the decision between alternative means is based on maxims, the determination of purpose is based on values and norms.
Parsons initially summarizes both as "normative standards".
