| Purposive action: Max Weber distinguished between two types of action rational-purposive and value-rational action. Rational-purposive action is oriented towards the most efficient and effective means of achieving a goal. Value-rational action is oriented towards a goal that is considered to be intrinsically valuable, even if it is not the most efficient or effective means of achieving it.
