Émile Durkheim on Aura - Dictionary of Arguments

Habermas IV 79
Aura/Durkheim/Habermas: The holy awakens the same ambivalent attitude as moral authority, for the holy is surrounded by an aura that simultaneously frightens and attracts, terrorizes and enchants. (1)
In the aura itself, the untouchability of what is desired at the same time is expressed, the closeness in distance. (2)
From this structural analogy Durkheim concludes on a sacral basis of morality.
