War/Traditional wars/Terminology/Huntington: Huntington sees the Soviet-Afghan and the first Gulf wars as "transition wars", which changed from "simple" invasion wars to cultural battles. (1) Since Muslims had perceived these wars as an attack against their culture, the conflict had gradually been conducted as a defence of Western imperialism under the flag of "the struggle between the West and Islam".(2)
