| Duration: Duration in physics is the interval of time between two events. It is a fundamental quantity in physics, and it is used to measure the time it takes for processes to occur. Henri Bergson on Duration - Dictionary of Arguments
Gadamer I 74 Durée/Bergson/Gadamer: (...) the first book by Henri Bergson, "Les données immédiates de la conscience" [is] a critical attack on contemporary psychophysics, which, like Natorp (>Experience/Natorp), was just as decisive in developing the concept of life as it was in opposing the objectifying, especially the spatializing tendency of psychological concept formation. Here we find very similar statements about this and its unfragmented concretion as in Natorp. Durée: Bergson coined the famous expression of durée for this, which expresses the absolute continuity of the psychic. Bergson understands it as "organisation", i.e. he defines it from the mode of being of the living (étre vivant), in which each element is representative of the whole (représentatif du tout). He compares the inner penetration of all elements in consciousness with the way in which all sounds penetrate each other when listening to a melody.
