Nothingness: Nothingness in philosophy is the absence of all things, including space, time, matter, energy, and mind. It is the state of being in which nothing exists. Nothingness in Heidegger is not simply the absence of things. Rather, it is the ground or possibility of all being. See also M. Heidegger.

Martin Heidegger on Nothingness - Dictionary of Arguments

Gadamer I 261
Nothingness/Heidegger/Gadamer: Heidegger's thesis was: that being itself is time. With it, the entire subjectivism of newer philosophy - as was soon to become apparent, the entire question horizon of metaphysics, which is occupied by the being as the present, was blown up.

Gadamer I 262
HeideggerVsMetaphysics: The questioning that is based on this basic fact that it turns this, is indeed itself a questioning about being, but in a direction that necessarily remained unthought of in all previous questions about the being (German: "Sein") of the being (German: "Seienden"), yes, was even hidden and obscured by the very question about being that is posed by metaphysics.
Heidegger/Gadamer: By presenting the question of being as the question of nothingness at the same time, he has linked the beginning and end of metaphysics. The fact that the question of being could arise from the question of nothingness presupposed the thinking of nothing, where metaphysics fails.
Precursor/Gadamer: [neither Dilthey nor Husserl], but most likely still Nietzsche. To raise Nietzsche's radical critique of "Platonism" to the level of the tradition he criticized, to encounter Western metaphysics on its own level, to recognize and overcome the transcendental question as a consequence of modern subjectivism - these were the tasks that, according to the approach, that could already be found in "Being and Time".
>Kehre/Heidegger, >F. Nietzsche, >Platonism.
