Gadamer I 426 Word of God/Scholasticism/Gadamer: The particular difficulty in making scholastic thinking fruitful for our question ((s) about the specificity of the "inner word" in contrast to normal language) consists in the fact that the Christian understanding of the word, as we find it with the Fathers partly in imitation, partly in transformation of late ancient thoughts, has been brought closer to the concept of the Logos of classical Greek philosophy with the reception of Aristotelian philosophy by higher scholasticism. >Logos/Gadamer. Thus, Thomas Aquinas systematically communicated the Christian doctrine developed from the prologue of John's gospel with Aristotle (1). Significantly, he hardly mentions the multiplicity of languages, which Augustine still discusses (>Word/Augustine), although he switches this off in favour of the "inner word". The doctrine of the "inner word" is for him the self-evident prerequisite under which he examines the connection between forma and verbum. >Word/Thomas. 1.
