| Benjamin Constant: Benjamin Constant (1767-1830), Franco-Swiss political thinker, activist, and writer on political theory and religion. His major works include Des réactions politiques (1797), De la liberté des anciens comparée à celle des modernes (1819), and Principes de politique applicables à tous les gouvernements représentatifs et particulièrement à la constitution actuelle de la France (1815). He mainly worked on political theory, liberalism, and the philosophy of history.
