Her major works include Governing the Commons: The Evolution of Institutions for Collective Action (1990), Understanding Institutional Diversity (2005), and Beyond Markets and States: Polycentric Governance of Complex Economic Systems (2010). Her fields of specialization were institutional economics, political economy, common-pool resource management, and polycentric governance.
