Conventionalism - Economics Dictionary of Arguments
Conventionalism: Conventionalism in mathematics is the view that the axioms of mathematics are not truths about reality, but are instead arbitrary choices made by mathematicians. This view is often contrasted with realism, which holds that the axioms of mathematics are true descriptions of a mind-independent reality. See also H. Poincaré._____________Annotation: The above characterizations of concepts are neither definitions nor exhausting presentations of problems related to them. Instead, they are intended to give a short introduction to the contributions below. – Lexicon of Arguments.
