Envelope Function - Economics Dictionary of Arguments

Envelope Function: In economics, an Envelope Function often refers to the value function of an optimization problem. The Envelope Theorem then describes how this optimized value changes when a parameter of the problem changes. It's a shortcut the derivative of the optimal value with respect to a parameter is simply the partial derivative of the original objective function with respect to that parameter, evaluated at the optimal choices. See also Optimization.
