| Envelope Function - Economics Dictionary of Arguments | |||
| Envelope Function: In economics, an Envelope Function often refers to the value function of an optimization problem. The Envelope Theorem then describes how this optimized value changes when a parameter of the problem changes. It's a shortcut the derivative of the optimal value with respect to a parameter is simply the partial derivative of the original objective function with respect to that parameter, evaluated at the optimal choices. See also Optimization._____________Annotation: The above characterizations of concepts are neither definitions nor exhausting presentations of problems related to them. Instead, they are intended to give a short introduction to the contributions below. – Lexicon of Arguments. | |||
