Auguste Comte (1798-1857), French philosopher and the founder of positivism. His major works include Cours de philosophie positive (1830–1842), Système de politique positive (1851–1854), and Discours sur l'esprit positif (1844). He mainly worked on philosophy of science, sociology, and political philosophy.
