Arthur C. Danto (1924 – 2013), American philosopher and art critic. He was best known for his work on the philosophy of art, especially his analysis of the nature of representation and the end of art history. His major works include After the End of Art (1997), The Transfiguration of the Commonplace (1981), and Encounters and Reflections: Art in the Historical Present (1990). His field of specialization were philosophy of history, epistemology, and metaphysics.
