Humberto Maturana (1928-2021), Chilean biologist and philosopher. His major works include De máquinas y seres vivos (1972), El árbol del conocimiento (1984), La realidad: ¿objetiva o construida? (1986), and Emociones y lenguaje en educación y política (1990). His fields of specialization were biology, philosophy, neuroscience, and cognition.
