Richard Montague (1930-1971), American philosopher and mathematician. His major works include English as a Formal Language (1970), The Proper Treatment of Quantification in Ordinary English (1973), and Universal Grammar (1970). His fields of specialization were mathematical logic, philosophy of language, formal semantics, and linguistics.
