Cognitive Dissonance - Psychology Dictionary of Arguments

Cognitive dissonance: Cognitive dissonance in psychology is the tension that arises when an individual holds conflicting beliefs, attitudes, or values. To alleviate this discomfort, people may change their beliefs in order to justify their actions. This theory, proposed by Leon Festinger, highlights the drive for consistency in cognitive processes.
