| Heinz von Foerster (1911-2002), Austrian-American scientist and philosopher. His major works include Das Gedächtnis. Eine quantenphysikalische Untersuchung (1948), Observing Systems (1960), and Cybernetics of Cybernetics: Or, the Control of Control and the Communication of Communication (1974). His fields of specialization were cybernetics, philosophy of science, and systems theory.
