Jürgen Habermas (1929), german philosopher and social theorist in the tradition of critical theory and pragmatism. His major works include Strukturwandel der Öffentlichkeit (1962), Theorie des kommunikativen Handelns (1981), and Der philosophische Diskurs der Moderne (1985). His fields of specialization are philosophy of language, social theory, and political philosophy.
