Carl Hempel (1905-1997), German-American philosopher. His major works include Philosophy of Natural Science (1966), Aspects of Scientific Explanation (1965), and Deductive-Nomological Models of Explanation (1965). His fields of specialization were philosophy of science, logic, and probability.
