Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679), English philosopher. His major works include Leviathan (1651), De Cive (On the Citizen) (1642), Elements of Law, and Natural and Politic (1640). He mainly worked on political philosophy, ethics, jurisprudence, and mathematics.
