Communication Media - Philosophy Dictionary of Arguments

Communication media: In Habermas' theory of communicative action, communication media are generalized symbols (e.g. money, power, love) that make communication more likely by reducing uncertainties. They enable understanding and follow-up communication in social systems by making complex messages understandable and acceptable. Unlike linguistic expressions, they are not bound to truth. See also Validity claims, Truth, Communication.
