Data Compression - Philosophy Dictionary of Arguments

Data compression: Data compression is the process of reducing the size of a file without losing any or significant quality of the data. There are two main types of data compression lossless and lossy. Lossless compression reduces the size of a file by identifying and eliminating statistical redundancy. Lossy compression reduces the size of a file by permanently removing some of the data. This type of compression is often used for multimedia files, such as images, audio, and video, where some loss of quality is acceptable. See also Data, Big Data.
